Sepsis Alliance Partners with APIC to Enhance Infection Control and Awareness
March 10, 2025
Sepsis Alliance is excited to announce a new partnership with the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC), aimed at improving infection control practices and raising sepsis awareness. This collaboration will leverage the strengths of both organizations to create impactful resources and educational opportunities for healthcare professionals.
Sepsis, the life-threatening condition that develops when your body’s response to an infection damages vital organs, kills over 350,000 adults in the U.S. each year. Sepsis can result from any type of infection anywhere in the body. For this reason, infection prevention is the best way to prevent sepsis, and why this partnership is vital to the mission of both organizations.
“Infection prevention is sepsis prevention™,” said Thomas Heymann, Sepsis Alliance President and CEO. “This partnership will help both of our organizations propel this message forward, to save lives and limbs from sepsis.”
“Preventing infections is the foundation of preventing sepsis,” said Devin Jopp, EdD, MS, CEO of APIC. “Through this partnership, APIC and Sepsis Alliance will equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and tools they need to strengthen infection prevention practices and ultimately save lives.”
Sepsis Alliance and APIC have previously collaborated on speaking opportunities, including the annual Sepsis Alliance Summit virtual conference. This partnership will expand upon those engagements and create a pathway for additional opportunities to spread awareness of the need for better infection prevention measures.
Some simple ways to prevent infection include:
- Hand washing
- Getting recommended vaccinations
- Caring for wounds properly
- Speaking with your healthcare professional about proper antimicrobials (when applicable)
This partnership marks a significant step forward in the fight against sepsis and the promotion of infection prevention practices. By combining resources and expertise, Sepsis Alliance and APIC will enhance the quality of care for patients at risk of sepsis and improving overall public health outcomes.
