Sepsis Alliance Announces Recipients of 2017 Erin Kay Flatley Pediatric Nursing Awards
August 25, 2017
Sepsis Alliance presents 2017 Erin K. Flatley Pediatric Awards to three nurses, two from the United States and one from Bangladesh.
SAN DIEGO, CA – Sepsis Alliance is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2017 Erin Kay Flatley Pediatric Nursing Awards. This year there were two award categories: U.S. and International, recognizing two licensed nurses from the U.S. and one licensed nurse from anywhere in the world, all of whom demonstrated excellence in their work and a commitment for improving outcomes among pediatric patients.
Created in honor of Erin Flatley, an aspiring teacher who died suddenly and unnecessarily from sepsis at the age of 23, the Erin Kay Flatley Pediatric Sepsis Nursing Award is a special honor designed to recognize the importance of nurses in the fight against sepsis in children.
Congratulations to Beth Wathen, MSN PNP, from Children’s Hospital Colorado and Wendi Redfern, MSN, of Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, and to our international winner, Mahmuda Aktar, BScN, in Bangladesh. Each nurse will receive a certificate and a monetary award of $2,500.
Sepsis Alliance wishes to thank all nurses who applied for this award. Nurses are front-line healthcare professionals who are often the first to recognize and sound the alarm on sepsis. They are also well-placed to provide education to their patients and members of the public as to how to spot sepsis and the importance of timely treatment.
