Sasha Brown

Tribute

On July 10, 2013 – Sasha Brown was rushed to the hospital by ambulance in full cardiac arrest. She was eleven days from her 22nd birthday. Within the previous 24 hours Sasha was seen by a doctor and staff, but her symptoms were brushed aside as the common cold or flu. Many tell-tale signs of sepsis went unnoticed because this patient was “young, healthy, and athletic…”

It is true – Sasha was all of those things. She was young and ambitious with a bright future. Healthy and athletic? Definitely.  An avid competitor and collegiate basketball player, Sasha was a force to be reckoned with, on and off the court. Most importantly, Sasha was a light – an absolute gift to all who knew her. She was loving, funny, compassionate, and always incredibly generous. Sasha adored Slurpees and sand, Hawaiian shaved-ice and sunglasses…her beautiful soul attracted all kinds of people. Oh, and animals? Well, they gravitated right to her lap, a safe place to land.

Sasha left us just past midnight on July 11th – the final diagnosis was Pneumococcal Pneumonia, and although sepsis took her life – her light SHINES bright and continues to impact her family and friends. (Sepsis and Pneumonia) In fact, that life force that is Sasha Brown is still unstoppable. She is missed terribly – but her story is one NOT to be missed and a story we will always tell in the hopes that it will save other lives. She would want that.
