I had gotten home from work and felt fine, just a normal day. I went with my wife down to pick up some hay for her cows and I didn’t feel right. Once we got home I told her I was going to take a shower and try to take a nap, I was feeling worse every minute. I was able to fall asleep, but when I woke up a short time later I had terrible chills and I felt horrible. I went downstairs and got in the shower to try and stop shaking, but it didn’t help. I made it back upstairs but within an hour my right foot started to turn a darker shade. I was in a lot of pain, and I was still shaking. I was in the ER for an hour or two. They drew blood and started me on an IV. When the blood work came back I immediately got two additional IV catheters and antibiotics.

I was septic, and it wasn’t going well. For 3 days I was on antibiotics and wasn’t getting better. More labs were done and they discovered I had necrotizing fasciitis. (Sepsis and Necrotizing Fasciitis)

Almost immediately I was in surgery. Afterward my kidneys began to fail, my heart rate dropped and my lungs weren’t providing me with enough oxygen. They switched up the antibiotics so many times I lost count.

Finally the infection was under control. My organs started to function 100% again and my blood work looked much better.

It’s been a long couple months, but I’m here, and I have all the pieces I came in with. I thank God for that!
