Sepsis awareness needs to be taught in all nursing homes. My Mom 92, died June 19, 2023 from sepsis, and subsequent septic shock and a heart attack.
The horrible part is that not one staff member even realized she was even sick.
My aunt (Mom’s baby sister), who is also a resident there, called and sent me a picture of Mom. I immediately talked to staff and demanded she be sent to the hospital. She died that same night. 🙁
Mom had a 4 month bedsore that the nursing home physician had never laid eyes on… and the hospital physician also discovered she had an untreated UTI. (Sepsis and Pressure Ulcers, Sepsis and Urinary Tract Infections)
It is inconceivable that not one staff member recognized her decline!
I normally visited her twice a week but due to a back injury, it had been 9 days since I had visited. Broke my heart that I was not there to protect her.
SENIORS MATTER! Their care should be better than this!
Sepsis Education is definitely a key factor that needs to be present in any medical healthcare setting.
