Kyle K.

Survivor

I couldn’t believe at the age of 31 right before my birthday that I had almost died. My story comes from shigillosis from eating a salad at a fast food restaurant and had the health department call me and doctors tell me I have HIV which I do NOT have it. (Sepsis and Food Poisoning)

I was intubated in a medically induced coma for 96 hrs. The aftermath is so painful I have vertigo, mild cognitive impairment, out of body experiences, unsteady gait, muscle deterioration, chronic and acute kidney disease and damage, fatty liver and about only 30% functionality of my kidneys, recurring infections like staph, the flu, RSV, common, cold, internal, bleeding, short-term memory loss. I have and had severe hallucinations and terrible nightmares. But I’m still here.

So far today I’m doing okayish except the fact it’s taking me hours to type this out from the chronic fatigue and anxiety. I feel so ashamed of myself that I had a colostomy bag and catheter at my age. I’m so nervous and scared. But I have some faith that things will slowly but surly get better hopefully in the near future. Unfortunately, the hospital center I went to didn’t give me any of my Valium, Fioricet, Lyrica, Soma, morphine, oxycodone or any of my maintenance medications so I was dying alone, suffering from 08/07/23 until 08/26/23, being treated like a prisoner and illegally put under Baker act because of my symptoms of not having my medication that I’ve been taking for over 14 yrs. I am so mad at the world that this happened. But I pray everyday that I’ll get better. Go get help, go to psychiatrist and therapist afterwards for the extreme PTSD
