When I was 50 years old, I developed a cyst in my groin. I am a diabetic and was concerned, so I went to my doctor and he referred me to a surgeon for lancing, but the appointment was two weeks out. (Sepsis and Diabetes, Sepsis and Bacterial Infections)
One night I was feeling awful, my temp was only 96 degrees, and my pulse was scattered. My husband looked at the cyst, and it was turning black, so we went to the ER. I remember NOTHING at all from the next week, as I went into a coma. It took five surgeries for them to get all of the infection out, and I had an open wound on a suction machine for the next six months. I woke up after five days in the coma but it took a few more days for me to start retaining memories again. while I was in the coma, they told my husband to start preparing our children for my impending death, that they’d done all they could and I was not likely to survive. And yet, I did survive.
It is five years later now, and every time I get a pimple or a scratch, I’m sure it’s going to start all over again. I go to therapy for PTSD but so far it’s not helping much. but I am still here, and here, I intend to stay! (Sepsis and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder)
