I was in the process of recovering from a back problem when I started to get very cold to a point of shaking. My wife kept putting more blankets on me but no help. Our neighbor is a RN so my wife went and got her to come over. She took my temperature and it was 105.2 but I felt like I was freezing.
They called 911 and got me to the hospital, but spending 6 days in ICU I don’t remember any of that time. They sent me home 3 days after I got out of ICU only to be back in ICU 4 days later with sepsis. After 5 days they put a port in my arm and I went home with my wife giving me my medicine through the port.
After it looked like I finally had beat sepsis, they took the port out but I was so weak I couldn’t stand up. I was using wheelchair to move around house. Started PT and began to feel stronger but I got sick again and ended up with a third case, although we caught it very early it was sepsis again coming from my bladder. (Sepsis and Urinary Tract Infections) It has been almost three years now and still fighting to walk again, I have lost 64 lbs and all my muscle mass. At 6Ft 1 I am very thin now and go to PT twice a week but can’t seem to build muscles back up while still losing weight.
It gets so depressing at times it’s hard to keep going, sometimes not sure living on is worth it? But I keep trying. I can stand up now but my balance is so bad and still not able to get everything to work together so I can’t walk. Getting sepsis is the worst thing that has ever happened in my life. I am 73 years old now and just want to be able to walk, just seems like that’s not a lot to ask but it seems to be!
