Donna Stone

Survivor

In September 2016, I had some right flank pain that we attributed to a possible kidney stone. (Sepsis and Kidney Stones) I spent two evenings in the ER, and was discharged both nights with Flomax and pain pills to take home. The third night I had worse pain and wasn’t very much with the program. At this, my husband called 911 and off we went to the ER again. I was worked up there, and it was determined that I would be admitted during the night.

After I got up to my room and the nurses evaluated me on the floor, they determined that I was going to need more care than they could give me. They had me transferred to the ICU, where I was diagnosed with sepsis. I was placed in a coma, intubated, and stayed that way for six days.

When I came out of the coma, my husband explained what had been happening to me, as I had no idea. When the tube was removed, it was so hard to breathe I wondered if I could continue to fight for every breath, or if I should just give up.

At that time I heard a voice that said, “Donna, we’re not ready for you yet.” I looked around the room, and there was no one there but me. (????) It had to be God that spoke to me. I am now convinced that I am alive because of that, and I give my husband equal credit for being my patient advocate, who had to fight with the doctors who didn’t seem to care whether I made it or not. Well, I did and here I am because of God and my husband.
