Sepsis Alliance Connect Presentation: Sharing Your Sepsis Story with the Media

Like many sepsis survivors, presenter Jackie Duda was shocked after her ordeal to learn just how common sepsis is despite how little she had known about it prior to her own experience. Unlike others, however, her professional experience as a journalist uniquely qualified her to use her story to help others. In 2023, Jackie wrote her story for The Washington Post and the Frederick News Post. She also appeared on WBAL 11 TV news with infectious disease expert Dr. Jonathan Baghdadi to tell her story at the hospital that saved her life. She is working on additional sepsis stories for publication in 2024. In this conversation, Jackie will share the tips and tricks she has collected from her personal and professional journey, which sepsis survivors and their loved ones can use if they want to share their own experiences with members of the media. These will include ways to find media contacts, strategies to catch a journalist’s interest with a pitch, and what to expect after making an outreach.
